"Sweet Home Alabama" - Lynyrd Skynyrd

The best word to describe this song is iconic. If you're an American, you have heard this song. Thanks to the opening chord progression, it is almost instantly recognizable. Personally, it puts me in a good mood every time I hear it, even if I don't listen to the whole thing. It is such a fun song, even if it can be a bit repetitive at time with the verses. Right off the bat, the guitar riff at the beginning really sets the tone for the song. Throughout the song, that same guitar progression serves as the backbone for the song and keeps it moving forward. It is fun and upbeat with a little bit of bounce to it. This song doesn't take itself very seriously and it's one of those songs that you listen to when you're looking for a good time (if you like classic rock, that is). Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant doesn't have the prettiest voice out there, but it matches up with his music very well. It's a There is a fun guitar solo around the 2:30 mark that gives the verses a break and mixes the song up a little, even adding a small little background choir for variety. Throughout the song there are little piano riffs mixed in that give the song a little bit of flair, and the ending is mostly played by the piano, which helps the song to end on a fun note. This a good, classic song.
(Fun fact: Lynyrd Skynyrd isn't even from Alabama, they're from Florida).

  1. This song is totally a classic american pop/rock song! Everyone knows this song and if they don't they have probably been living under a rock. I love the guitar riff too! It is something that you can get stuck in you head and be playing a air guitar to for the rest of the day! It's great! I would agree that Ronnie doesn't have the greatest voice but, that makes the song more fun to sing along to because you don't have to have the best voice either! Thanks!

  2. This song is a classic and it would be almost surprising if almost anyone from America that either goes to a public school or just has a radio hasn't at least heard this song once. Good choice
